THE PROPERTY OF THE DESCENDANT OF THE ORIGINAL OWNER

With Patek Philippe fitted presentation box and outer packaging.
Furthermore delivered with Patek Philippe Extract from the Archives confirming production of the present watch in 1947 and its subsequent sale on 17 September 1948. The Extract further mentions that the original case has been replaced by the present case numbered 660'233 during a servicing in the Patek Philippe workshop in 1967.

By all means, few vintage collectors' watches are of such rarity, quality and visual appeal as this reference 1579. It would not only be a superb addition to any important collection of vintage Patek Philippe chronographs and take immediately a prominent role within this context, but also no collector of this landmark reference can ever claim his collection to be complete without a specimen in stainless steel.

Patek Philippe's reference 1579 in stainless steel is one of the rarest gems in the world of wristwatch collecting. Interestingly, it is understood that only a very small number was cased and sold in the 1940s. The other examples, including the present one, were finished to a later date upon request by Patek Philippe's most loyal clients following the approval of the firm.

This watch is of great importance as it is a superb witness of how a reference 1579 left the workshops of Patek Philippe, showing how all the case elements were originally finished. It is consequently a perfect example to all the other watches of the celebrated reference 1579 when it comes to comparison, condition and possible restoration.

This exceptional 1579 is blessed with a superb silvered dial, lightly and appealingly patinated, displaying warm tones throughout and perfectly contrasting with the "icy beauty" of the steel case. The signature, hour markers and scales are finished in black enamel and are nicely raised. The case, quasi allergic to insensible polishing, has maintained its sharp facets and angles to the lugs.

Given the excessively high level of rarity and exclusivity of this model, combined with its excellent overall condition and absolute freshness to the auction market, this watch is an exquisite treasure for the discerning collector.

Reference 1579, introduced in 1943, takes a unique position in the production of chronographs at Patek Philippe, as it is not only one of the largest models with a diameter of 36 mm., but also the only one with facetted lugs.

According to our research, only 8 other examples in stainless steel have appeared in public to date. Furthermore, the present watch comes from the descendant of the original owner.
